As you can see, My Gang looks reasonably inexperienced. Therein lies the problem with running an Arbitrator Campaign: You run out of time to play your own gang. This gang started of really well, beating everyone it wanted, until I bought the Outlanders expansion, and was voted as Arbitrator. Gangs suddenly started overtaking me left-right-and-center, and i couldn't keep up. (My gang of 'specially enhanced' Spyrers on the Other hand, are well ahead of everyone - see my Spyrer's article for more details, before you brand me a cheat.)Before I go on, I have to explain "Jessie's Brother". In my second game ever my leader was faced by an opponent packing a Powerfist and Chainsword. He fired his Plasma gun, but unfortunately missed his mark. A Juve - Jessy, heroically charged my opponents h-t-h specialist, saving my Leader from almost certain death. Jessy was cut down and scragged in cold blood, but stopped my opponent charging my Leader. Next turn, My leader aimed, and took his revenge for the brutal murder of his favourite juve. Running to Jessies aid, John found that his throat had been brutally slit, and nothing could be to help him. Jessie had been killed outright. Before the next game, My leader was approached by a Juve from the local settlement, claiming to be Jessie's Brother. He would not give his name, wishing to be named only Jessie's Brother, in honour of his sibling. He proved his worth in the next game, cutting down 2 lasgunners and then pinning a heavy with his stub gun!. After the battle, I was able to purchase a Powerfist, and awarded it to Jessie's brother for his heroics. Truly a remarkable story!
Now, what you followed the link for, the Painting.
I had received criticism on a number of occasions about my gangers carrying weapons, especially pistols, which they didn't have on the model. After much deliberations, I decided to ring the "trolls" at GW Mail-order, and found out that Space Marine Close Combat sprues could be ordered. I quickly bought about 5 of these, and solved all my problems with pistols and swords, and allowed myself to get some new weapons.
With my newly converted models, I set about painting them. Studying the models closer, and the 'Eavy Metal pictures of them, I decided that their trenchcoats should be black, with the contrasting colours coming from their shiny blad heads, and their clothes within. Next thing to do was decide on the colour. As you might have guessed from the colour scheme of this page, I picked a nice mid-purple. This went really well with the black, and the elf-flesh skin. I also colour coded the members by painting the trim of the cloaks different colours. Blue for the Leader, Red for the Heavies, Grey for the gangers, and green for the juves. This does not stand out very much, but gives the desired effect. Finally, I stole a transfer from my friends Wood-Elf Glade-Riders boxed set (sorry Gareth!) and painted a patch on the back of my Leaders cloak to put it on. The finished product was a very dark and sinister looking delaque gang, with a great colour scheme linking them.Features to note are firstly, the weapons. A couple of models, especially the ones where a lot of the clothing was hidden needed more colour. I decided that when the gang was recruited, the local armoury had "acquired" a large amount of surplus weapons from the Space Wolves Chapter of space marines. Thus, many of the weapons that Space marines use - Power fist, Chainswords, Bolt Pistols - have a paint scheme that would be found on Space Wolves models. They now look great! (If i do say so myself).
In this way, just by painting things a little differently, you can give gangs a real background of their own.
